I work on my paintings when my circumstances (work, family obligations, home improvement jobs) permit it. Normally this is late at night in the basement.
My aim is to make interesting paintings. Of course that is subjective - I find my paintings interesting. They might be funny or odd, but hopefully not boring. Also I like to make paintings that are contemporary. Ideally you should be able to tell WHEN they come from and even WHERE they come from. The piece should give a hint about the culture it comes from. For me that is important - for the authenticity of the body of work.
I've done a few color field paintings and will likely do some more. Also I do portraits (usually of family members or sometimes celebrities) because I feel that portraiture is the most difficult form of painting and like to challenge myself.
Other than that, I believe in letting the painting speak for itself.
